Six arrested in Assam for alleged fraud linked to Pakistan operatives

The Special Task Force suspects the syndicate used mule bank accounts to cheat victims of several crores of rupees over two years.

The Assam Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested six people in Guwahati for their suspected role in a financial fraud network connected to Pakistan Intelligence Operatives (PIOs), according to reports by Hindustan Times and The Tribune on Monday.

The investigation began after a complaint was filed in Sonitpur district last month regarding online fraud. The STF took up the case following intelligence from Gajraj Military Intelligence in Tezpur.

Police said the group allegedly used mule bank accounts to move fraudulent money across India, defrauding victims of several crores of rupees over a two-year period. The suspected mastermind is believed to be operating from outside Assam.

The first three arrests occurred on October 28 and included Marjina Begum, Mofijul Haque, and Himangshu Das. Investigators found that Begum's bank account received lakhs of rupees between June 22 and August 5, 2026, with funds being withdrawn immediately after deposit.

Following interrogations, the STF arrested Rakib Hussain on October 29, and Iftar Hussain and Arman Aziz Hoque on October 30. Authorities seized laptops, mobile phones, electronic gadgets, and bank documents during the operations, which were assisted by the Guwahati City Police.

The STF is currently working to identify remaining members, trace the movement of funds, and determine the extent of the links to Pakistan-based intelligence operatives.
