Samajwadi Party is a curse for Uttar Pradesh, says Yogi Adityanath

The Chief Minister alleged that the Samajwadi Party brought chaos and crime whenever it held power in the state.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday termed the Samajwadi Party (SP) a "shraap" or curse for the state, alleging the party brought chaos whenever it was in power. He made these remarks during a public meeting in Gonda after launching 69 development projects valued at more than Rs 520 crore for the Mankapur and Gaura assembly constituencies, according to reports by Hindustan Times, Deccan Herald and ThePrint.

He accused the previous SP government of presiding over lawlessness, including frequent curfews, riots during festivals, and the looting of homes belonging to the poor. Adityanath also alleged that the SP government restricted religious practices, such as preventing the Kanwar Yatra in western Uttar Pradesh and opposing devotees worshipping Maa Durga in their homes.

The Chief Minister claimed that the BJP stands for faith and progress, while the SP and Congress are synonymous with crime. He stated that while the opposition brings criminals, his government brings change. He further alleged that a major food-grain scam occurred in Gonda during the SP's tenure.

Contrasting current development with the past, Adityanath said that previous administrations restricted progress to specific locations like Saifai. He noted that over the last nine and a half years, projects exceeding Rs 16,000 crore have been approved for Gonda, while approximately Rs 50,000 crore in projects were approved for the Devipatan division.
