Maharashtra police officer faces row over birthday celebration on fatal flyover
A video of Sonal Patil celebrating her birthday on the Kolhapur Naka-Nandlapur flyover has sparked criticism regarding the use of public roads.
A woman police officer, Sonal Patil, has faced controversy after a video of her birthday celebration on a Maharashtra flyover went viral on social media, according to India Today.
The video shows Patil celebrating her birthday on the Kolhapur Naka-Nandlapur flyover on October 31. The celebration included cake-cutting, photographs, a bouquet of flowers, and the use of a pyro gun.
The 3.5-km flyover, which connects Kolhapur Naka and Nandlapur, was completed a few months ago. It was the site of a fatal accident approximately 10 to 15 days ago where a car crashed, killing four young men and injuring two others.
The viral clip has led to questions regarding the use of a public road for a private event and whether the officer disregarded traffic rules. Concerns have previously been raised regarding speeding and road safety on this stretch since traffic resumed.
The incident has sparked questions over the conduct of the officer and whether action will be taken for allegedly flouting traffic rules.
