Ahmedabad police detain 61 alleged illegal immigrants in pre-Diwali crackdown

The Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch conducted raids across multiple zones in the city starting on Sunday night.

The Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) detained 61 alleged illegal immigrants, most of whom are from Bangladesh, during a crackdown in Ahmedabad, according to The Indian Express.

The police stated on Monday morning that the raids began on Sunday night across various zones of the city to improve security before the Diwali festivities.

The group of detainees includes men, women, and children. They have been taken to the Crime Branch headquarters and will be moved to the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in the city, where 40 other individuals are currently held.

Officials said the legal process to deport the individuals to their home countries is underway.

This action follows a previous operation in June this year, where Gujarat Police identified and detained 568 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. At that time, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi stated the state government maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding national security and is processing intruders for deportation.
