ACP Manasvi Vashistha suspended after protest at Delhi Police Headquarters
The suspension follows a demonstration by police personnel against the transfer of two officers after a confrontation with lawyers.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashistha has been suspended following a protest by police personnel outside the Delhi Police Headquarters on Monday, according to The Indian Express and India TV.
The demonstration was held to demand the revocation of transfer orders for Vashistha and Inspector Arun Kumar, the former Station House Officer (SHO) of Shahdara police station.
The transfers followed an incident on October 23 at the Shahdara police station, where an advocate allegedly sustained a serious head injury during a scuffle with police.
Lawyers accused Vashistha of threatening them by displaying his revolver, leading to a strike that was called off on October 28 after the transfer orders were issued.
During the protest, Vashistha stated that personnel had presented five main demands to Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar during a meeting.
The protesters also called for a clear Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for confrontations with lawyers and requested that no disciplinary action be taken against those participating in the demonstration.
