Tripura police arrest eight people for assaulting BSF patrol team

The arrests include three women following an alleged attack on Border Security Force personnel at the India-Bangladesh border in Sepahijala district.

Tripura police have arrested at least eight people, including three women, for the alleged assault of a Border Security Force (BSF) patrolling team at Asha Bari in the Boxanagar block of Sepahijala district, according to The Shillong Times.

The incident occurred when a group of approximately 19 villagers allegedly attacked the patrol team, which included an assistant commandant, a constable, and a vehicle driver, after they intervened to stop a suspected smuggling attempt involving contraband near the India-Bangladesh border.

A video of the assault circulated on social media, showing one attacker attempting to take a rifle from a BSF jawan who had fallen to the ground.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the violence on social media, stating that such attacks on security forces are unacceptable and a matter of grave concern. He said authorities have been instructed to take swift and stringent action to ensure justice is delivered.

The arrested individuals will be produced before the Sonamura court, where police intend to seek five days of remand for further interrogation.
