Delhi Police personnel protest transfer of two officers

Around 100 personnel demonstrated outside the Delhi Police Headquarters on Monday following the transfer of two officers after a scuffle with lawyers.

Around 100 Delhi Police personnel protested outside the Delhi Police Headquarters (PHQ) Gate No. 1 on Monday morning. According to The Indian Express, the demonstration was held following the transfer of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashistha and Inspector Arun Kumar, the SHO of Shahdara police station.

The transfers occurred after a confrontation on October 23 involving lawyers, during which an advocate allegedly sustained a serious head injury. Following the incident, district court lawyers held a strike that ended on October 28 after the transfer orders were issued.

During a meeting at the Adarsh Auditorium, Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and other senior officers interacted with the protesters. ACP Vashistha, who held charge of the Shahdara and Gandhi Nagar subdivision at the time of the incident, stated he would not withdraw the case filed against the lawyers.

Vashistha addressed allegations that he brandished a weapon, stating that lawyers barged into his office while he was counting rounds and he immediately handed the weapon to the armoury incharge. He also requested a standard operating procedure to deal with such situations and increased security in courts.

The protest continued into the evening, with personnel moving to a footpath near the YMCA bus stand to avoid disrupting traffic. ACP Vashistha said that Joint CP Nupur Prasad heard their grievances and that he was assured no action would be taken against those who protested.

The demonstrations took place ahead of an interaction programme scheduled by LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu with Delhi Police personnel on Tuesday.
