Tamil Nadu permits six daily shows for new Tamil films for one week

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has authorised theatres to screen new Tamil films from 6 am to 2.30 am.

The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday announced that theatres across the state can now hold up to six shows a day for newly released Tamil films. According to The Hindu, this permission applies for one week starting from the date of a film's release.

The order, issued by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, allows screenings to run from 6 am until 2.30 am the following day. This decision follows requests from various groups, including the Tamil Film Producers Council, the Tamil Film Active Producers Association, and the Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association.

The Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 1957, will be amended to accommodate the change. Previously, the state permitted only four or five shows per day under existing regulations.

Under the new rules, the six-show limit also applies to Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and local festival days. The Hindustan Times reported that the move comes ahead of Diwali releases, including films such as Scene, Mookuthi Amman 2, and Ramayana.

While the order supports new Tamil films, it remains unclear if dubbed Tamil films will receive the same benefit. The films Scene and Mookuthi Amman 2 are scheduled to hit screens on November 6.
