Delhi airport working with regulators to ease security for transfer passengers
GMR Airports Executive Director S G K Kishore said the airport aims to make security clearance less burdensome for transit travellers.
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) is collaborating with regulators to simplify the security clearance process for transfer passengers, according to Moneycontrol.
GMR Airports Executive Director S G K Kishore said on Tuesday that the airport is looking for ways to make security less burdensome, particularly for those moving from domestic to international or domestic to domestic flights.
Transfer passengers, who transit through the airport, account for approximately 30-35 per cent of the annual traffic at the Delhi airport. The facility is operated by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), a part of GMR Airports.
Addressing concerns regarding high airport charges at the Aviation India and South Asia 2026 conference, Kishore stated that airport charges are bound to rise when significant capital is infused into infrastructure development. He noted that an economic regulator oversees these charges and that costs may decrease over time.
Kishore added that the company ensures projects are completed on time without cost overruns, citing the Bhogapuram airport as an example. Currently, the airport handles 106 million passengers annually, with plans to expand this capacity to 125 million.
The airport recorded around 78.7 million passengers in 2025-26, and traffic for the current fiscal is expected to reach approximately 82 million. The site features three terminals, four runways, and a cross taxiway.
