First import container arrives at Vizhinjam International Seaport
Chief Minister V D Satheesan hailed the arrival of the first import container as a milestone for the state.
The first import container arrived at the Vizhinjam International Seaport on Tuesday, marking a new chapter in the port's operational history, according to Moneycontrol and The Hindu.
The container arrived from Ningbo, China, aboard the MSC Sabrina 111. It was booked by BS2G Logistics and Ship Chandlers Private Limited for the Altair Group in Thiruvananthapuram and contained engineered building boards.
Kovalam MLA M Vincent received the container in the presence of officials from Customs, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), the Bureau of Immigration (BoI), Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd (VISL), and Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited (AVPPL).
Chief Minister V D Satheesan described the arrival as a proud milestone that brings cargo, opportunities, and hope. He noted that Mission Samudra continues to move forward as Kerala connects to the world.
The shipment was led by Gouri Devanand and Greeshma Devanand of BS2G Logistics and Ship Chandlers Private Limited. The company is headquartered in the UAE.
The arrival follows the commencement of export-import operations at the port in August this year. The facility allows importers in Kerala to unload goods directly at Vizhinjam, reducing the need to rely on other ports.
