Tamil Nadu opens Santhai online procurement to producer groups
Self-help groups and farmer producer organisations can now register to sell products directly through the state's new digital system.
The Tamil Nadu cooperative department has invited farmer producer organisations, cooperative marketing societies, and self-help groups to register for Santhai, an online procurement system, according to a report by Urban Acres.
The initiative is part of a new state procurement policy for consumer goods. The system aims to provide marketing opportunities by connecting these producer groups directly to procurement channels without the use of intermediaries.
The department stated that private players have been excluded from the initiative. This is intended to ensure that cooperative groups benefit from the system instead of competing with private entities on the same platform.
While the move provides a state-backed mechanism for market access, the department has not yet specified the categories of goods, procurement volumes, or how prices will be determined. Details regarding logistics, delivery, and payment timelines have also not been released.
Eligible organisations can register for the Santhai system by contacting 8838034739 during office hours.
