Delhi parking rates double in NDMC areas under GRAP II
New Delhi Municipal Council has increased parking fees to discourage private vehicle use during intensified air-pollution restrictions.
Parking rates across New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) facilities doubled from November 1 as part of the city's GRAP II pollution-control measures, according to Urban Acres. The revised charges apply to on-street, off-street, indoor, underground, and underground parking lots.
In NDMC off-street lots, including Connaught Place, four-wheeler fees rose to Rs 40 per hour from Rs 20, while two-wheeler rates moved from Rs 10 to Rs 20 per hour. Bus parking increased from Rs 150 to Rs 200 per hour. At indoor and underground sites, two-wheeler parking now costs Rs 10 per hour compared to the previous Rs 5, and four-wheeler fees rose from Rs 10 to Rs 20 per hour.
On-street parking at Bengali Market and Pandara Road Market increased from Rs 50 to Rs 100 per hour, an NDMC official said.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is planning to double charges at approximately 400 surface parking lots, according to reports from Urban Acres and The Economic Times. These rates currently remain unchanged because a proposal is awaiting approval from the civic body's house and law department.
The MCD official stated that a previous proposal to double charges was referred back, and a revised proposal was rejected in March 2025. Officials noted that existing contracts with multiple operators would require term revisions to ensure additional revenue goes to the MCD rather than contractors.
The proposed MCD hike aims to discourage private vehicle use as air quality deteriorates. Once the competent authority provides clearance, the new rates will take effect immediately and remain until air quality improves.
