Gujarat health department catches 38 suspected bogus doctors in 15-day drive

The state government has registered FIRs against 35 individuals following intensive checks conducted by 298 teams across various districts.

The Gujarat state health department identified 38 suspected bogus doctors during a 15-day statewide crackdown, according to The Times of India.

Health Minister Praful Pansheriya said 298 teams worked with local police, crime branches, and special operations groups (SOGs) to find individuals practising medicine without valid registration or qualifications.

Rajkot saw 17 cases booked, while Surat had nine, Gir Somnath had three, and Surendranagar had two. Other areas reported one case each.

District-level committees, comprising health officers, police, and revenue officials, used informants to conduct these raids. Some suspected practitioners reportedly closed their clinics before teams arrived.

Pansheriya stated that the crackdown will continue after the Diwali festive season to protect public health. He requested citizens and NGOs to report illegal medical practice to the nearest police station, SOG, or health centre.
