Delhi Police ACP suspended after leading protest outside headquarters

Assistant Commissioner of Police Manasvi Vashistha was suspended on Tuesday following a demonstration by police personnel over officer transfers.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashistha has been suspended after participating in a protest by police personnel outside the Delhi Police Headquarters, according to ThePrint.

The demonstration took place on Monday, when officers gathered at the Jai Singh Road headquarters to seek the revocation of transfer orders for two officers.

Pragativadi reported that the controversy began following a clash between police and advocates in the Shahdara region of East Delhi involving an alleged assault on advocate Lalit Bansal.

Local bar associations had launched an indefinite strike, alleging that ACP Vashistha, who was then posted at Gandhi Nagar, and Shahdara Station House Officer (SHO) Arun Kumar had used intimidation.

Following pressure from the bar association, both Vashistha and SHO Arun Kumar were transferred from their positions.

Vashishta led the personnel in a demonstration on Monday to demand a meeting with Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and the creation of a standard operating procedure (SOP) for such matters.

The suspension of the ACP follows the unauthorised demonstration and is pending a formal departmental inquiry, according to Pragativadi.
