Bihar police raid four locations linked to education officer

The Economic Offences Unit is investigating District Programme Officer Ruby Kumari for allegedly possessing assets 80 per cent higher than her declared income.

The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police conducted simultaneous raids at four locations in Kishanganj and Katihar districts on Tuesday. The operations targeted sites connected to Ruby Kumari, a District Programme Officer (DPO) in the Education Department, regarding a disproportionate assets case, according to The Hawk.

Preliminary investigation findings suggest that Kumari allegedly held assets approximately 80 per cent above her known and declared sources of income. The EOU launched the searches in the morning after receiving a search warrant from a special court.

In Kishanganj, teams searched Kumari's office chamber at the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan office and her rented residence. Two additional locations connected to the officer were searched in Katihar with the assistance of local police.

Investigators recovered digital devices, computers, official files, bank passbooks, and investment papers during the raids. They also found documents related to land investments.

The EOU is currently examining these records to identify property transactions, bank accounts, and the origins of funds used for acquisitions. Officials are also scrutinising land deeds and sale records to see if investments match her declared asset statements.

The EOU stated that the investigation is ongoing. The actual value and sources of the assets will be determined once the collected material undergoes a detailed examination.
