Security sweeps underway in Gujarat after bomb threat email

Police conducted inspections at prisons and government offices following an email sent to the Director General of Police office on November 3.

Security agencies in Gujarat launched inspections at prisons, government offices, and public locations across the state after a bomb-threat email was received by the Director General of Police (DGP) office on November 3, according to Urban Acres.

The email reportedly referred to the 2008 attacks and mentioned a "big surprise" for the Indian government. It targeted the DGP office in Gandhinagar, a collector’s office, and a temple, and was reportedly sent in the name of Khalistan.

Police teams, including the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and dog squads, searched Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad, which houses high-security inmates such as gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Checks were also carried out at prisons in Vadodara and Rajkot.

In Patan, public entry was temporarily stopped at the district collector’s office during searches. Patan Superintendent of Police V.K. Naik said the security check at the collector’s office was completed and teams were sent to other locations, including the sub-jail, for mock-drill activity.

Police stated that no suspicious objects have been found so far during the inspections. In Mehsana, the district service complex underwent surprise inspections before normal functioning resumed.

The threat follows reports of bomb threats sent to eight schools in Ahmedabad about a week ago, which also mentioned a Diljit Dosanjh concert scheduled for November 21 at Narendra Modi Stadium.
