Gujarat University orders inquiry into waste disposal payment allegations
The university vice-chancellor has promised a detailed report within seven days following protests by the student organisation NSUI.
Gujarat University has ordered an inquiry into allegations that an agency was paid significantly more than standard truck-hire rates for campus waste disposal, according to Urban Acres.
The student organisation NSUI raised these concerns through a protest and a written representation, alleging that the university paid ₹8,000 per truck to remove waste from its 350-acre campus.
NSUI stated that typical rates for transporting soil or waste in Ahmedabad usually fall between ₹2,500 and ₹3,000 per truck.
The student group also alleged that Dhruv Corporation received payments amounting to lakhs and crores over the last six years without an open tender process.
NSUI claimed that the estate department's supervision of these arrangements requires investigation and noted that the alleged overpayments involved student fees.
The student organisation has demanded police action against the agency and responsible officials, as well as the recovery of any wrongly paid funds. The vice-chancellor has assured that a report will be submitted within seven days.
