It is harsh to say Jasprit Bumrah is picking matches, says Shane Bond

The former New Zealand fast bowler defended the Indian pacer's decision to skip ODI matches to focus on the upcoming Test series.

Former New Zealand pace bowler Shane Bond has defended Jasprit Bumrah against claims that the Indian pacer is picking and choosing which matches to play, according to the Times of India.

Bond was discussing player management and workload issues during an interview with the outlet. He noted that experienced bowlers work closely with medical staff and coaches to assess what they can physically handle.

The Indian team opted not to include Bumrah in the One Day International (ODI) squad to allow him to concentrate exclusively on the upcoming Test series. This comes as both India and New Zealand manage workloads for a tour lasting over 40 days.

Bond stated that it is harsh to suggest Bumrah is selecting specific matches, noting that the biggest risk period for players is when they are returning from injury and readjusting to competitive cricket.

Regarding India's bowling depth, Bond praised Mohammed Siraj for his consistency and energy. He added that while the attack could benefit from a left-arm fast bowler, the team possesses height, pace, and skill.

The former player also mentioned that managing workloads is essential for all players to ensure they are fit for the ODI World Cup next October or November.
