Devon Conway ruled out of first ODI against India after collision
The New Zealand opener sustained a head injury during a training session at Eden Park on Tuesday.
New Zealand opener Devon Conway has been ruled out of the first One Day International (ODI) against India in Auckland after sustaining a head injury during a training session on Tuesday, according to ANI.
The injury occurred at Eden Park when Conway collided with fast bowler Matt Henry during a pre-match training session. Conway was rushed off the premises for further medical attention.
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner said that Henry appeared fine after undergoing concussion assessments, but described the collision with Conway as not looking good.
Santner called the incident an unfortunate freak accident and noted that wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert is likely to replace Conway in the playing XI. Seifert was added to the squad for the entire series on Monday.
Conway's absence follows the earlier withdrawal of Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra from the series due to hamstring and shoulder injuries, respectively.
The ODI series begins on November 4 in Auckland. This follows a five-match T20I series where India won 3-2 after New Zealand won the final two games.
