Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell retires from international cricket
The 38-year-old batter will also step away from domestic 50-over and four-day cricket for Victoria.
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday, November 3, according to reports by The Pioneer and Sportstar. The 38-year-old, nicknamed “The Big Show”, also confirmed he is retiring from domestic 50-over and four-day cricket for Victoria.
Speaking on The Final Word podcast, Maxwell said he intends to invest more time in his physical conditioning to manage the remaining tournaments in his career. He noted that while there was discussion regarding a potential farewell match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) during the upcoming series against England, he understands the selectors' focus on youth.
Maxwell's international career included 149 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), 130 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), and seven Tests. He scored 3,990 runs in ODIs and 2,897 runs in T20Is. He also claimed 128 wickets in the two short-format disciplines using his off-spin.
A two-time ODI World Cup winner in 2015 and 2023, Maxwell also helped Australia secure the T20 World Cup in 2021. He is one of only two players, alongside India's Rohit Sharma, to record five T20 international centuries.
Despite his international exit, Maxwell will continue to play for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League, having recently extended his contract to the 2027-28 season.
