Virat Kohli nears Sachin Tendulkar record in New Zealand ODI series

India captain Shubman Gill confirmed the top four batters for the upcoming five-match series starting on Wednesday.

Virat Kohli is approaching a significant milestone as India prepares to face New Zealand in the first ODI at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday, according to the Times of India.

The former India captain currently holds the position of the third-highest run-scorer for Indian batters in ODIs played in New Zealand. Kohli has accumulated 514 runs across 11 matches in the country and requires 139 more runs to surpass the current leader.

Sachin Tendulkar sits at the top of the list with 652 runs from 18 ODIs in New Zealand, including one century and four half-centuries. Virender Sehwag is second with 598 runs in 12 matches, while MS Dhoni follows in fourth with 505 runs in 13 matches.

India captain Shubman Gill announced the team's top four batters for the five-match series during a pre-match press conference. Gill stated that the top order will consist of four right-handed batters: himself, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer.

Gill added that the team will use a flexible approach for the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. He noted that KL Rahul and Axar Patel are available depending on the match situation and whether a left-handed batter is required.

The five-match ODI series between India and New Zealand begins on November 4.
