Ambala student builds women-only running club to improve road safety

Kridha Gupta founded RunX to address safety concerns and poor lighting for women exercising in public spaces.

Class 12 student Kridha Gupta has established RunX, a women-only running club in Ambala, to address safety barriers faced by women exercising outdoors, according to The Hindu.

The initiative began with a small group of five or six women and has grown to include more than 200 members.

Gupta raised nearly ₹8 lakh to fund the placement of five streetlights on dark routes through partnerships with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in Ambala.

The club's advocacy has reached the Ambala Mayor’s office, where proposals for better lighting and safer areas have reportedly been included in the 2026 civic policy agenda.

Gupta also organised the Ambala Martyrs Run with the Indian Army, which involved 400 runners and raised about $1,000 for the families of martyrs.

Through the Chief Minister’s Good Governance Associates Programme, Gupta conducted workshops on leadership and gender equity for over 7,000 students in more than 20 government schools in rural Haryana.
