Mandya officials must re-enroll children working in garages into schools

Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumar directed officials to identify minority community children working in garages and bring them back to the educational mainstream.

Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumar has directed officials to locate children from the minority community working in garages and ensure they are re-enrolled in schools, according to The Hindu.

Speaking at a meeting on Tuesday to review the Prime Minister’s 15-point programme for minority welfare, Kumar said officials must find children who dropped out of school for social or economic reasons to work in garages and other locations.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that departments must coordinate to bring children under the age of 18 back into education if they are found working in garages.

Kumar also instructed officials to identify students who are frequently absent from school and investigate the reasons for their absenteeism.

He suggested that special training and remedial teaching should be developed for academically backward children, while parents should be counselled on the importance of higher studies.

The meeting also addressed providing loan facilities for housing and self-employment, administering HPV vaccines to minority girls under 14, and improving hostel infrastructure.
