Manipur may declare armed groups involved in civilian violence unlawful
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has directed security agencies to identify armed groups suspected of participating in recent violence.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh stated that the State Cabinet may consider declaring certain armed groups unlawful if they are found to be involved in violence against civilians, according to The Economic Times.
During a security review meeting in Guwahati, the Chief Minister instructed security officers to identify active armed groups suspected of recent violence, though he excluded those currently engaged in peace talks.
Singh requested that security agencies provide a comprehensive report regarding the participation of these groups as soon as possible. He noted that the Cabinet would act based on the findings of this report.
The Chief Minister added that any groups continuing to target the civilian population would face necessary action. He stated such groups would be dealt with under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The meeting included Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur, and Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, along with several senior officers from central security agencies and the Home Department.
