Akhilesh Yadav calls BJP anarchy over Loktantra Bachao march
The Samajwadi Party chief criticised the ruling party in Varanasi and reiterated opposition to electronic voting machines.
Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday described the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as "anarchy" and "one crisis" during a visit to Varanasi. According to ANI, Yadav was responding to the BJP's 'Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao' march, which the ruling party launched to counter opposition protests against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Yadav maintained that the Samajwadi Party would continue to oppose electronic voting machines (EVMs) regardless of election results. He stated that the party advocates for voting through paper ballots and believes that voting via EVMs is unconstitutional. He noted that elections in the United States use paper ballots.
Addressing local issues in Varanasi, the Samajwadi Party chief criticised the condition of the city, which is represented by the Prime Minister. He cited problems such as traffic jams, lack of clean drinking water, and garbage on the streets. He also remarked on the poor condition of roads in the constituency.
Yadav also clarified that the party's PDA acronym stands for Pichhda, Dalit, and Alpsankhyak. He said this includes backward classes, Dalits, and minorities such as Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, Sikhs, and Christians, as well as anyone facing suffering.
The BJP's nationwide march follows comments by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, who accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of facilitating vote theft.
