NC questions Ruhullah Mehdi's role in restoring Jammu and Kashmir special status
The National Conference accused the Srinagar MP of self-obsession and unparliamentary language following his remarks against the party leadership.
The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) on Tuesday criticised Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi for his comments against the party leadership. According to the Kashmir Observer, the NC accused Mehdi of being self-obsessed and lacking moral and mental integrity while questioning his efforts to restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
The party alleged in a social media statement that Mehdi used derogatory and unparliamentary language. The NC further claimed that Mehdi decided to resign only after receiving directions from the NC president and noted that his focus on reservation and special status issues appeared late.
The NC questioned Mehdi's parliamentary contributions regarding statehood and special status. The party asked if he had tried to mobilise opposition MPs or move any bills on these matters, noting that he had previously gathered over 100 signatures for an impeachment motion against an Allahabad High Court judge.
Regarding government job reservations, the NC stated the issue is a serious injustice to open merit candidates and was part of its election manifesto. The party said it had formed a Cabinet sub-committee to change the policy, but alleged that authorities have stalled the file.
The NC also accused the MP of failing to protest against the Lieutenant Governor's administration regarding recruitment controversies and examination irregularities. The party maintained that its roadmap for identity and constitutional rights is based on political strategy rather than theatrics.
The NC stated that its push for statehood will not come at the expense of special status. The party further alleged that Mehdi worked against its interests and played a role in the NC's defeat in the Budgam Assembly by-election.
