Tejasvi Surya urges youth to critically examine political developments
The Bengaluru South MP spoke at a youth interaction programme in Hubballi regarding constitutional institutions and electoral roll revisions.
Bengaluru South Lok Sabha MP Tejasvi Surya on Tuesday urged young people to scrutinise political events, claiming that efforts are being made to weaken constitutional institutions. Speaking at the 'Save Democracy, Eradicate Anarchy' programme at KLE Technological University in Hubballi, Surya said that instability has been sought in the country over the last six months, according to The Hindu.
Defending the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Surya stated the process is intended to bolster the electoral system. He addressed Congress allegations regarding the removal of 13 crore voters by citing the Election Commission’s explanation that deletions involve duplicate entries, deceased individuals, and those who have permanently relocated.
Surya also mentioned a World Bank survey stating that 56 crore people have moved out of poverty during the last decade, an achievement he attributed to the Narendra Modi government. He encouraged youngsters to find inspiration from developed nations.
During the interaction, BJP supporter Vishwanath Bijapur questioned the party's ideological direction and the rise of family-based politics. He also asked why those creating instability in the country are not facing action.
A student named Jason from Madikeri raised concerns that the SIR exercise caused hardship for voters missing from rolls, requiring them to visit government offices with documents. He also questioned why existing voters must submit Form 6 again.
The event was attended by MLAs Mahesh Tenginkai and Lingaraj Patil, as well as former KLE director Shankranna Munavalli.
