India celebrates first anniversary of maiden Women's ODI World Cup win

Players and coach reflect on the historic 52-run victory over South Africa achieved on home soil last year.

India is celebrating the first anniversary of its maiden ICC Women's ODI World Cup triumph on Monday, November 2. According to The Tribune, the team secured the title on November 2, 2025, with a 52-run victory over South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Player of the Tournament Deepti Sharma, who took 22 wickets and scored 215 runs during the campaign, said the moment would stay with her for a lifetime. Sharma also recorded a five-wicket haul of 5/39 in the final.

India's campaign featured strong individual performances, including 434 runs from opener Smriti Mandhana and 260 runs from captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Jemimah Rodrigues contributed 292 runs, including an unbeaten 127 during the semi-final against Australia.

Speaking on JioStar's 'Celebrating The Champions', head coach Amol Muzumdar recalled addressing the team following a group-stage defeat to England. Muzumdar said he decided to step in because he wanted the players to show their talent on the field.

Batter Pratika Rawal also shared her experience of scoring a century against Zimbabwe on the same date she scored a hundred against New Zealand in the tournament. Rawal, who missed the remainder of the World Cup due to a fracture sustained against Bangladesh, watched the semi-final and final from her hotel.

All-rounder Shafali Verma recalled receiving her national team call-up midway through the tournament while representing Haryana in a state-level match.
