Regularisation of Section 22A lands in Telangana moving slowly
Technical issues and workload on revenue staff are causing delays in correcting land records in Telangana, according to The Hindu.
The process of rectifying lapses and regularising lands declared under Section 22A of the Registration Act in Telangana is moving slowly, according to The Hindu. The delay is reportedly due to district collectors submitting lists of Section 22A lands in PDF format, which were then uploaded to the Registration and Stamps website.
Technical problems with the website and the workload on revenue staff have made effecting corrections difficult. Because scanned documents were uploaded with the village as a unit, changes to dates can only be made after reopening the entire document.
The issue follows concerns that thousands of private properties, residential plots, and older homes in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal, and Sangareddy were mistakenly placed on a prohibited list. These errors were attributed to clerical mistakes, technical issues, and legacy data from previous portal transitions.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) alleged that huge tracts of land were placed on the prohibited list. The government stated that 3.73 lakh acres of land are currently on the prohibited list, noting that steps were taken to regularise over 4 lakh acres in the past two years.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has constituted a high-level official committee to study the issue and suggest remedial measures. The committee has a one-month deadline to submit its recommendations to ensure genuine landowners are not adversely affected.
A land laws expert noted that while recent circulars and memos deal with pending applications, no specific guidelines have been issued regarding lands erroneously placed on the prohibited list.
