Telangana Rythu Sangham seeks ₹12,000 per quintal for cotton growers

The association's Warangal district committee submitted a memorandum to the Cotton Corporation of India to address farmer difficulties.

The Telangana Rythu Sangham has requested the Central government to provide cotton farmers with a price of ₹12,000 per quintal, according to The Hindu.

A delegation from the Warangal district committee of the association met the General Manager of the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) in Warangal on Tuesday to submit a memorandum.

The group asked the CCI to carry out commercial procurement in instances where market prices rise above the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

State convener Somidi Srinivas of the Telangana Rythu Sangham said farmers are experiencing significant financial hardship because of low crop yields caused by insufficient rainfall and bad weather this season.

Srinivas alleged that private traders are exploiting growers by providing different prices for cotton of the same quality. He also questioned the role of the CCI in safeguarding the interests of farmers.

The association demanded immediate intervention from the Central government to prevent exploitation and ensure farmers get fair prices for their produce.
