Three BSF jawans injured in Tripura attack by villagers

Six people have been arrested after a group of villagers attacked Border Security Force personnel in Sepahijala district.

Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured during an attack by a group of villagers in Tripura's Sepahijala district on Monday, according to reports from The Tribune, The News Mill and The Sentinel.

The incident occurred near the Ashabari border outpost in the Boxanagar area around 9 AM. Police said the attack happened after one person, identified as Hefzur Rahman, was detained for suspicious smuggling activities.

The Tribune reported that a mob vandalised a BSF vehicle and attempted to snatch arms from the guards. The attackers allegedly targeted the service weapons of the jawans, who sustained head injuries.

Six villagers have been arrested in connection with the incident, while others were taken to the Kalamchoura Police Station for alleged involvement, police said. The Boxanagar Police are leading the investigation and have obtained CCTV footage of the assault.

Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the assault on Facebook, stating that violence against security forces is "completely unacceptable". He said the attack is a matter of grave concern and directed authorities to take swift and stringent action.

Additional forces were deployed to the area to prevent further escalation following the clash.
