Andhra man allegedly duped into joining Russian Army for job
The mother of J Vamsi has appealed to the Centre and Andhra Pradesh government to secure his safe return from the frontline.
A man from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, who travelled to Russia for employment, has allegedly been deceived into joining the Russian Army and taken towards Ukraine, according to the Hindustan Times.
The man, identified as J Vamsi, reportedly sought fruit-packing work but found no employment after arriving in Russia. He subsequently contacted a Nepali national who promised better-paying jobs in Ukraine and facilitated his recruitment.
In a video message, a person purported to be Vamsi, alongside four other Indians, claimed they were being sent to frontline areas near the Russia-Ukraine border. He stated they were made to sign documents in Russian without understanding the contents and were unaware they had been granted Russian citizenship.
The individual in the video said that when they enquired about their Indian citizenship, they were told they had become Russians. He appealed to the Indian government to intervene immediately to save their lives.
Vamsi's mother, J Appalakonda, has urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and IT Minister Nara Lokesh to help bring her son back.
Responding to the situation, IT Minister Nara Lokesh expressed concern on X and stated his office would coordinate with authorities to facilitate a safe and speedy return for the stranded citizens.
