Jharkhand judiciary opens Rs 35 crore data centre in Ranchi

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant launched the facility alongside a new website and an iOS application to improve judicial access.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant inaugurated the first judiciary data centre for Jharkhand at the state high court in Ranchi on Monday. The facility was built at a cost of Rs 35 crore and is intended to strengthen the digital infrastructure of the Jharkhand High Court and subordinate courts, according to reports by Urban Acres and Prabhat Khabar.

During the launch, the CJI also introduced a new Jharkhand High Court website and an iOS application. Justice Ananda Sen, chairperson of the high court’s Computer and Digitisation Committee, stated that the digital rollout includes an online certified copy module and a personalised cause list facility for advocates.

To support judicial work, members of the subordinate judiciary will be provided with the artificial intelligence version of the legal software Supreme Today and Dragon, a speech-to-text software. Justice Sen noted these tools aim to provide technological support to judges and court staff.

The inauguration took place in the presence of Supreme Court Justices S Chandrashekhar and Aparesh Kumar Singh. Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice MS Sonak described the data centre as a "living memory of the court" that will safeguard high court records.

Earlier on Monday, the CJI attended a state-level Legal Services-cum-Empowerment Camp at the Deoghar Civil Court. He stated that legal assistance should reach the doorsteps of poor and needy people and urged legal aid lawyers to connect underprivileged residents with the judicial system.
