Telangana offers compensation to Maharashtra for Tummidihatti barrage project
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to continue inter-state discussions regarding land submergence and compensation.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed irrigation officials to proceed with discussions with Maharashtra regarding the proposed Tummidihatti barrage, according to Urban Acres. The Chief Minister stated that Telangana is prepared to provide adequate compensation for land in Maharashtra that might be affected by submergence.
During a review meeting at his Jubilee Hills residence with Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and senior officials, the Chief Minister said the state is ready to deposit funds into a joint account held by both state governments. He also noted that Telangana would not oppose Maharashtra performing its own survey of the potential submergence areas.
The meeting focused on the information needed to advance the inter-state dialogue. Reddy instructed officials to maintain a good rapport with Maharashtra counterparts and ensure all requested documents, including existing agreements and project data, are shared in a timely manner.
The proposed arrangement makes land assessment and compensation central to the coordination between the two states. The next steps involve the continued exchange of documents and a possible land survey by Maharashtra to determine the extent of the impact.
