Gujarat firecracker markets see high demand for new varieties despite price hikes

Firecracker prices in Gujarat have risen by 25 to 30 per cent due to raw material shortages and global conflicts.

Firecracker markets across Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, and Rajkot, are seeing significant buyer interest in new and high-tech varieties ahead of Diwali. According to Bhaskar English, prices for these goods have increased by 25 to 30 per cent this year, a rise linked to higher chemical costs, raw material shortages in Sivakasi, and global conflict.

In Ahmedabad, traders are stocking over 300 varieties, including peacock-themed fireworks and items designed like electric helicopters. Trader Dipen Patel said a premium firecracker priced at ₹30,000 offers 1,000 shots. He noted that customers are particularly interested in new designs, such as cartoon-themed crackers for children.

In Rajkot, the Mega Peacock firecracker has become a major attraction because it spreads widely when lit. Trader Imranbhai said that while demand from villages has slowed following rains, he expects strong retail footfall. He noted that some varieties, such as cylinder bombs and musical-function crackers, are available, with prices ranging from ₹10 to ₹50,000.

Vadodara's Diwalipura village has emerged as a major trading hub, attracting buyers from Maharashtra and neighbouring districts. Customers at wholesale outlets and factory shops have been observed waiting in queues for four to five hours. Popular new items include Sky Shots that reach heights of 300 to 350 feet and the Celebration Movement variety, which produces continuous bursts for one minute.
