Amrita Rao kept son away from gadgets for first five years

The actor and her husband RJ Anmol chose a screen-free routine for their son Veer, according to the Times of India.

Bollywood actor Amrita Rao and her husband, radio jockey (RJ) Anmol, chose to keep their son Veer away from television and gadgets for the first five years of his life, according to a Times of India report.

Rao recently discussed this decision on the ThinkRight podcast with Rajan Navani. She stated that the best part of motherhood was keeping her baby gadget-free for at least five years.

The couple did not have a television at home and avoided giving Veer access to mobile phones or other screens. Rao said she also put her own phone away upon conceiving and stayed away from mobiles during her nine-month pregnancy.

Instead of using screens, the couple used audio stories and nursery rhymes in Hindi and English to keep Veer occupied. RJ Anmol said they use audio when they are busy and noted that listening has made a difference to Veer's vocabulary.

Rao mentioned that the decision required the couple to give Veer more time and attention, as they do not employ a nanny. She also noted that the couple decided to provide Veer with satvik food and avoid packaged snacks.

The actor added that the COVID-19 pandemic influenced her thoughts on parenthood, noting that if the pandemic had occurred before her pregnancy, she would not have brought a child into the world.
