Chennai IT manager shares emotional account of being asked to fire 12 staff
A delivery manager at a leading IT company expressed guilt over being instructed to terminate long-term team members by Friday.
A delivery manager at a leading IT company in Chennai shared an emotional account on social media regarding instructions to terminate 12 members of his team by Friday, according to Moneycontrol and News18.
The manager stated that senior leadership held a closed-door meeting and provided an Excel sheet containing the names of the employees. He was instructed to conduct individual 15-minute meetings to inform them of their terminations without the possibility of discussion or second chances.
The manager noted that the employees have worked with him since 2016 and refer to him as "Anna," which means elder brother in Tamil. He described the team as being like family, having shared milestones such as weddings and late-night work sessions to resolve production issues.
The post highlighted the difficult personal circumstances of some staff, including a developer with a recent home loan, an employee with a mother battling cancer, and another with a pregnant wife due to deliver next month.
The manager expressed frustration that senior leaders made cost-cutting decisions while leaving middle management to handle the emotional impact of the news. He admitted he considered resigning, but his wife suggested another person would likely be assigned the task instead.
He shared that he felt broken and guilty while sitting in his car, noting that no corporate title could ease the burden of firing people he considered family.
