Konkani songs to be sung nonstop for 12 days in Mangaluru
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated a 13-day international convention aiming to set a Guinness World Record through a singing marathon.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated an attempt to set a Guinness World Record by singing Konkani songs nonstop for 12 days at the Town Hall in Mangaluru on Tuesday.
According to The New Indian Express, the record attempt, titled ‘Konko’nni Niro’nto’ri - So’msar So’raso’ri’, is part of a 13-day international convention organised by Mandd Sobhann to mark its Ruby Jubilee.
The event, which runs from November 3 to 15, involves 300 performing teams in rotation. More than 6,700 singers, including 53 teams from Goa, will perform over 4,500 Konkani songs representing various dialects and musical traditions without repeating any songs or singers.
Dr Sawant stated that while Konkani has various dialects, its speakers are united by their culture and language. He noted that the Mangaluru community maintains the vibrancy of the language and mentioned that the Goa government recognises Konkani achievers from outside the state via awards.
The convention officially started at 5 am on Tuesday and was blessed by the Bishop of Mangaluru, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha.
