Actor Danny Denzongpa spent Rs 40 crore to protect brewery market in Northeast
The veteran Bollywood actor acquired Rhino Agencies Ltd in 2009 to prevent Vijay Mallya's United Breweries from entering the region.
Veteran actor Danny Denzongpa spent Rs 40 crore to keep Vijay Mallya's United Breweries out of the Northeast market, according to a report by The Indian Express.
The actor acquired Rhino Agencies Ltd in Assam for Rs 40 crore in 2009, as reported by The Economic Times.
Denzongpa wanted to protect his business space because his company, Yuksom Breweries, was a local operation at the time while United Breweries was a multi-million dollar company.
Denzongpa, who established Yuksom Breweries in 1987, has since grown his business into the third-largest brewery in India and the largest in the Northeast region.
In a 2009 interview with The Indian Express, Denzongpa said his breweries were his real bread and butter and were performing very well.
The Padma Shri recipient, who was last seen in the 2022 film Uunchai, also operates Denzong Breweries in Odisha.
