Kashi Tamil Sangamam 5.0 to be held in Varanasi from Nov 28

The fifth edition of the event focuses on the theme 'Tirukkural Payilvom – Let Us Learn Tirukkural' to strengthen cultural ties.

The fifth edition of Kashi Tamil Sangamam will take place in Varanasi from November 28 to December 12, according to The Times of India. The event aims to bolster the long-standing cultural and civilizational connections between Kashi and Tamil Nadu.

This year's theme is 'Tirukkural Payilvom – Let Us Learn Tirukkural', focusing on the work of saint-poet Thiruvalluvar. The programme intends to bring the values of the Tirukkural to educational institutions and young people across India.

As part of the initiative, students from 1,000 selected institutions across various states and Union Territories will study the text. The Central Institute of Classical Tamil has already translated the Tirukkural into all 22 languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

A high-level review meeting was held at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Tuesday to discuss preparations and coordination for the large-scale event. Attendees included Secretary of the Department of Higher Education Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, BHU Vice-Chancellor Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, and Principal Secretary of Higher Education Amit Kumar Ghosh.

Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi launched the registration process and web portal for the event on October 22. The Central Institute of Classical Tamil, Chennai, will manage the portal, digital repository, and school outreach.

IIT Madras and BHU will act as the nodal and coordinating institutions for the Tamil Nadu and Kashi sides of the programme respectively.
