Nicolas Cage stays in hotels after sinkhole damages Malibu mansion
The actor described himself as being a little bit homeless after a massive sinkhole appeared near his beachfront property in September.
Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage is temporarily living in hotels after a large sinkhole damaged his $10.5 million mansion in Malibu, according to the Times of India. The 62-year-old actor shared these details during an appearance at the Los Angeles Comic Con.
The sinkhole appeared on September 8 following heavy rainfall, high tides, and coastal erosion. The collapse affected the driveway of the four-storey property on Sea Level Drive and extended into the adjoining roadway. The Los Angeles Times reported the hole was approximately 25 feet deep and measured around 30 by 60 feet.
The incident caused wider issues in the neighbourhood, including a gas leak that led the Southern California Gas Company to shut off the supply. The City of Malibu declared a local emergency, noting that the damaged road blocked access for fire and law enforcement personnel. Consequently, 31 properties were declared unsafe and evacuation orders were issued.
Cage mentioned that his living situation has changed his Halloween plans with his four-year-old daughter, August. He said he intends to take her trick-or-treating in Santa Monica instead of hosting visitors at his home.
The actor has obtained permits for repair work, including soil sampling, debris removal, and placing sandbags to protect the property from further erosion. The timeline for completing these repairs remains uncertain.
