Ed Sheeran reveals how Shah Rukh Khan collaboration came together
The British singer recorded his verse for the song Tu Mil Jaaye on the same night he met composers Sachin-Jigar.
British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has shared how his first Bollywood song, Tu Mil Jaaye, was created during a visit to Shah Rukh Khan's residence, Mannat. According to reports from Rediff and Hindustan Times, the song is part of the upcoming action film King, which stars Khan and Deepika Padukone.
Sheeran revealed on Instagram that the collaboration began when he visited Khan to request a cameo for his 2025 song Sapphire, which also features Arijit Singh. During that visit, Khan introduced Sheeran to composers Sachin-Jigar, and the singer wrote and recorded his verse for the new track that same night.
The song features vocals by Arijit Singh and an English rap by Sheeran. It was composed by Sachin-Jigar with lyrics by Kumaar. Khan expressed his gratitude to Sheeran on Instagram Stories, specifically mentioning the Hindi portions of the song.
Tu Mil Jaaye was released on Monday, November 2, to coincide with Khan's 61st birthday. Hindustan Times reported that the track crossed 60 million views across platforms within its first 24 hours, setting a YouTube record for the most-watched song from an Indian film in a single day.
The song recorded 36.3 million views and over 430,000 likes on YouTube in one day, surpassing the previous record held by the song Zinda Banda from the film Jawan. The film King is scheduled to be released in theatres on December 24.
