Tamil Nadu allows six daily shows for new Tamil films

The state government has increased the permitted number of daily screenings for new Tamil film releases to six shows.

The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday announced that theatres across the state can now host six daily screenings of newly released Tamil films for one week from their release date. According to reports from The Hindu and The New Indian Express, the permitted show timings are between 6 am and 2.30 am the following day.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has directed that the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 1957, be amended to implement this change. The decision follows requests from several groups, including the Tamil Film Producers Council, the Tamil Film Active Producers Association, and the Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association.

Under the new rules, the six-show limit also applies to Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and local festival days. Previously, the TVK-led government had allowed five daily screenings for the first seven days of a film's release.

The News Mill reported that the order aims to support producers, theatre owners, and audiences. The state has previously granted special permission for extra shows during festival periods such as Pongal and Deepavali.
