Guntur intensifies water chlorination to prevent contamination after floods
The Rural Water Supply Department has started a disinfection programme across several villages in Guntur district following Cyclone Murasu.
The Rural Water Supply (RWS) Department launched a chlorination and super-chlorination programme across drinking water schemes in Guntur district on Wednesday. This follows floods caused by Cyclone Murasu, according to The Hindu.
Acting on instructions from District Collector C.M. Saikanth Varma, the department began the measures once the cyclone's intensity subsided. RWS Superintending Engineer K.
Kalyana Chakravarthy is supervising the operations.
The programme covers drinking water schemes in villages including Nimmagadda Varipalem, Kantheru, Visadala, Mandapadu, Bheemuni Varipalem, Sowpadu, Narakoduru, and Perecherla. Officials and field staff are inspecting schemes to identify potential contamination.
Chakravarthy said the Collector had directed officials to take precautionary measures before the cyclone. He stated that all water supply schemes were filled to full capacity in advance to prevent contamination after the floods.
The department is working to ensure safe drinking water reaches rural residents. However, people have been advised to boil drinking water thoroughly and let it cool before use to prevent waterborne diseases.
