PM Modi reviews cyclone impact in Andhra Pradesh with Naidu

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has sought central assistance exceeding Rs 4,500 crore to recover from cyclones Arnab and Murasu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu over the phone on Wednesday morning to review the impact of cyclones Arnab and Murasu, according to The Hindu. The two cyclones hit the state within a week.

Naidu briefed the Prime Minister on the damage in affected regions, noting that heavy rains and strong winds caused extensive losses to farmers. The Chief Minister also reported damage to roads, electricity infrastructure, and other sectors.

The state government has sought immediate central assistance to manage the recovery. Naidu has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking Rs 4,563 crore as relief for damage caused by Cyclone Arnab, while a preliminary assessment puts Murasu's damage at Rs 343 crore.

The Chief Minister met with a central team comprising officials from the Union Ministries of Home Affairs, Agriculture, Water Resources, and Road Transport and Highways, as well as the Finance Department. The team visited the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) Centre in the Secretariat to assess the damage.

The Chief Minister’s Office stated that Prime Minister Modi appreciated the state government's handling of the cyclone-related situation. Modi praised Naidu for remaining alert and ensuring that difficulties caused by the storms were addressed effectively.
