Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu via telephone on Wednesday morning to discuss the impact of Cyclones Arnab and Murasu, according to reports by Deccan Chronicle and The Hindu.
The two storms hit the state within a single week. Naidu informed the Prime Minister about the destruction in impacted regions, noting that heavy winds and rainfall caused significant losses for farmers, electricity infrastructure, and roads.
The Chief Minister's Office stated that Prime Minister Modi praised the state government for its handling of the situation. Modi reportedly commended Naidu for maintaining alertness and managing the difficulties caused by the storms effectively.
The state has requested immediate central assistance to manage the damage. Naidu has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking Rs 4,563 crore in relief for losses from Cyclone Arnab, while preliminary assessments for Cyclone Murasu estimate damage at Rs 343 crore.
Naidu noted that the state used an AI-powered system to monitor the path of Cyclone Murasu. He stated that forecasts regarding rainfall, wind speed, and flooding were 90 per cent accurate.
