The Leader of Opposition described the late singer as a dynamic and talented young man during an Insaaf Rally.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recalled his meeting with the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala while addressing an 'Insaaf Rally' in Sangrur on Wednesday, according to reports by Deccan Herald, Hindustan Times and ANI.
The Leader of Opposition (LoP) invited the singer's father, Balkaur Singh, onto the stage during his address. Gandhi said he met Moosewala in his office years ago when the singer wanted to join the Congress party.
Gandhi stated that although he had not heard Moosewala's songs at the time, he found him to be an impressive and talented young man with tattoos. He added that he felt the singer was entering a dangerous field and wanted to provide him with political protection.
Recalling the singer's death, Gandhi said that Moosewala was killed in broad daylight after his security was removed. He claimed the mindset responsible for the killing is now roaming every corner of Punjab.
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in Mansa district on May 29, 2022. He had joined the Congress in December 2021 and contested the 2022 Punjab elections from Mansa district.
Gandhi also criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, stating that 'chitta' or adulterated heroin is a major issue in the state. He urged voters to choose Congress for jobs and a drugs-free Punjab.
