Punjab's remote control is in Delhi, says Rahul Gandhi
The Congress leader accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of failing to eradicate drugs and running the state from Delhi.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of being controlled by leaders in Delhi on Wednesday. Addressing an 'Insaaf Rally' in Sangrur, Gandhi claimed the state government is not run independently and alleged that AAP leaders exercise control over Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
According to a report by The Economic Times, Gandhi questioned the AAP's ability to fulfil its promise of eliminating drug abuse. He asked where the party had managed to eradicate the drug menace in Punjab, noting that the issue remains a major concern.
Gandhi claimed that Mann would sit with lawmakers in Parliament and crack jokes, but alleged the Chief Minister's breath would smell of alcohol by 11 am. He stated that if one wants to fight drug abuse, the Chief Minister cannot be under the influence of intoxicants every evening.
The Congress leader also challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to an open debate regarding allegations that the Congress is anti-national. Gandhi said the Prime Minister's calls for parliamentary discussion are meaningless because the Opposition is not allowed to speak and microphones are turned off.
Recalling the May 2022 murder of singer Sidhu Moose Wala, Gandhi questioned the withdrawal of the singer's security before he was shot dead. He alleged that talented young people in Punjab are being threatened and intimidated.
Gandhi argued that a lack of industrial activity, employment, and agricultural support contributes to drug abuse and gangsterism. He accused the BJP of working for billionaires like Gautam Adani instead of farmers and small businesses.
