Kerala CM confirms meeting businessman suspected in sting operation
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan questioned why the businessman wore camera-enabled smart glasses only during meetings with Congress leaders.
Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan confirmed on Wednesday that he met a businessman suspected of being involved in a sting operation. According to reports by The Hindu and The New Indian Express, the businessman was seen wearing camera-enabled Meta smart glasses during the meeting.
Mr. Satheesan told a press conference that he had also received photographs of the meeting. He noted a contrast in photographs, stating the individual appeared to wear the device only when meeting specific leaders.
The Chief Minister questioned the motive behind the selective use of the glasses, asking if they were only worn when meeting him and Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. He noted that the businessman did not wear them when meeting BJP leaders and other ministers.
Mr. Shivakumar had previously expressed suspicion that the visitor attempted to record or spy on him during a discussion. The visitor reportedly shifted the conversation from business matters to politics and electoral strategies, including booth-level calculations.
While the Kerala government views the incident with seriousness, Mr. Satheesan ruled out a separate state-level probe. He stated that Kerala would leave the sequence of events and broader implications to the ongoing investigation by the Karnataka Police.
