Mubarak Gul defers press conference on political future
The senior National Conference leader postponed his scheduled statement after receiving advice from colleagues and friends.
Senior National Conference (NC) leader and Eidgah MLA Mubarak Gul deferred his scheduled press conference on Wednesday, according to reports by Kashmir Observer and WION. Gul had planned to make a statement regarding whether he would continue with the party or resign.
The leader decided against making an announcement, citing the advice of colleagues, friends, and the sentiments of party workers. He stated that he wanted to respect the feelings of those who have been associated with him for nearly five decades.
Gul said that people from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Baramulla, Kupwara, Anantnag, Pulwama, and Srinagar, had visited his residence to express solidarity. He also thanked the print and electronic media for its coverage.
The development follows reported discontent within the National Conference after Gul was not included in the recent Cabinet expansion under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Gul had previously expressed displeasure at being overlooked for a ministerial berth.
The leader's organisational position remains uncertain following a series of party orders. On October 27, NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah appointed Gul as General Secretary, but a subsequent order on October 30 directed Ali Mohammad Sagar to continue in that role until further orders.
Gul declined to respond to reporters' questions on Wednesday, stating he would not disclose anything at that time. He said, "I am a fighter, and I will continue to fight."
